Kingsland man fined for driving without licence, registration, insurance

A Kingsland, Christ Church man was fined a total of $3 000 after admitting to driving without a licence, registration or insurance, using fraudulent number plates, and possessing cannabis.

After being pulled over by police on Saturday, Felipe Johnathan De Barros Diaz was found not to have a driver’s licence, and that the vehicle he was operating was neither registered nor insured.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to all the charges when he appeared in the No. 2 Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that around 10:20 p.m., police on patrol along Fordes Road, St Michael, stopped a red Mazda Familia driven by Diaz. Checks revealed he did not hold a valid licence and that the number plates were fraudulent.

While in custody, Diaz was searched, and a transparent bag containing 13 grammes of cannabis, valued at $65, was found in the crotch area of his boxer briefs. He admitted knowledge and ownership.

Magistrate Manila Renee fined him $1 500 each for having no registration and insurance — both payable within six months or risk one month in prison. He was also fined $500 for having no driver’s licence and another $500 for using fraudulent number plates, to be paid within three months or face one week in prison.

He was convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the cannabis charge.
