Barbados doubles teams bow out at PanAm Championships

Barbados’ doubles teams went down fighting when play continued at the PanAm Senior Squash Championships in Asuncion, Paraguay, on Monday.

CAC double gold medallist Margot Prow and Eboni Atherley faced Colombia’s Laura Tovar and Maria Tovar.

After losing the opening game 7-11, the Barbadians levelled the match with an 11-8 win in the second.

However, Prow and Atherley narrowly lost the deciding game 8-11.

In mixed doubles, CAC Games medallists Meagan Best and Khamal Cumberbatch faced Argentina’s Segundo Portabales and Paula Rivero in another closely contested encounter.

The Argentinians took the first game 11-8, but Best and Cumberbatch fought back to edge the second 11-10. The Barbadian pair ultimately lost the match after going down 8-11 in the decisive third game.

In the men’s doubles, Darien Benn and Shawn Simpson were beaten 2-0 by Brazil’s Diego Gobbi and Pedro Mometto, losing 7-11, 4-11.

During Sunday’s singles action, Prow lost her quarter-final encounter against number two seed Marina Stefanoni of the United States 6-11, 1-11, 7-11.

Team competition serves off on Thursday.
