Tuach now ranked number 11 in the region

Barbadian surfer Chelsea Tuach has climbed to number 11 in the regional rankings after finishing joint fifth at the Super Girl Surf Pro in Oceanside, California.

Competing among a field of 112 elite surfers, Tuach advanced through five rounds at the world’s largest professional women’s surfing event, held from August 21 to 23.

“The Super Girl Surf Pro is a very special event for me, as it is all about inspiring the next generation to believe in themselves and follow their dreams,” Tuach said after the event.

“It’s the biggest female surf event in the world and has a lot of great surfers, so it is never easy and I am happy with my top five result.”

Tuach continued: “Conditions are always tricky at Oceanside, but I was able to find two scoring rides in each of my heats to make it to finals day, when the head-to-head competition starts. I will be off to another WSL 4000 event next week, so I’m looking forward to putting together a few more strong heats and continuing to rise in the rankings.”

In the round of 16, she defeated Hawaii’s current rankings leader, Vaihitmahana Inso, before narrowly falling to US surfer Mia McLeish in the quarterfinals by just 0.63 points.

The performance continued a strong run of form for Tuach, who recently won a silver medal at the CAC Games in the Dominican Republic.
