Former Cabinet Minister Dr David Estwick is the new president of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP).

Estwick, one of the members of the โ€œold guardโ€ who held the ministerial portfolios of Agriculture and Economic Affairs during the 2010-2018 Freundel Stuart administration, was declared the winner of the presidential elections held during the partyโ€™s 71stย Annual General Conference at the DLPโ€™s George Street headquarters on Saturday night.

Estwick garnered 217 votes to Stephen Lashleyโ€™s 136 to claim victory and the mandate to lead the party into the next general election, constitutionally due in 2031.

Lashley, also from the โ€œold guardโ€, is a former minister of youth, culture and sport.

Estwick is scheduled to address the partyโ€™s final day on Sunday.

Corey Greenidge is the new general secretary of the DLP. (EJ)
