BUT calls for teamwork as students return to school

Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) President Rudy Lovell is urging teachers, parents and education officials to work together as students return to the classroom for the 2026-2027 academic year.

In his back-to-school message, Lovell said improving education was a shared responsibility and called for children to remain at the centre of efforts across the system.

“No one group can transform education alone. By listening to one another, respecting each other’s roles and working collaboratively, we can create schools where every child feels safe, valued, supported and inspired to learn,” he said.

Lovell also stressed the role of parents and guardians, saying their encouragement and involvement could make a lasting difference in their children’s education.

Turning his attention to students, the BUT president assured them that teachers would be there to support them as they returned to school.

“We want you to know that you are not alone on this journey. Your teachers care about your success and will make every effort to understand your individual needs, support your learning and help you overcome the challenges you may face,” he said.

“We encourage you to work hard, ask questions, seek help when you need it and never give up on yourself. Believe in your ability to learn, grow and succeed.”

Lovell said education remained one of the most important investments in Barbados’ future and urged stakeholders to remain focused on giving every child the opportunity to succeed.

He wished students, teachers, principals, school personnel and education officials a safe, productive and successful school year.
