The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) says 35mm of rain has already fallen, with saturated soils increasing the risk of rapid flooding. โThe tropical wave has generated pockets of intense rainfall across northern parishes, with accumulations of 35mm already recorded within a short period. As the tropical wave continues to affect the island, additional rainfall is inevitable, and with already saturated soils, flooding is more than likely to occur,โ the BMS said in its updated weather bulletin. St Peter and St Lucy were impacted by intense rainfall late Monday morning, with more rain expected islandwide. โThis activity is likely to spread across the island this afternoon and into tonight. Due to the already saturated soils, the BMS believes that further rainfall will result in flash flooding and, as a result, has upgraded the Flash Flood Watch to a Flash Flood Warning for this afternoon. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for tonight.โ The Met Office warn of flooded roads, runoff, erosion and fast-moving water, with some routes potentially becoming impassable.
