Barbadians in NY lending a hand . . . Associations donate to Adopt-A-Family programme

Barbadian associations affiliated with the Barbados Consulate in New York have so far pledged US$7, 850 to the Adopt-A-Family Charity, initiated by Prime Minister Mia Mottley at the end of March.

In fact, several of them have already made good on their pledges, starting with the Daryll Jordan Secondary School New York Chapter Alumni (DJSSNYCA), Foundation School Alumni Association, the Barbados Ex-Police Association and Dr O’Neall Parris, the head of Barbados Diaspora Collaborative USA (BDCUSA), Inc., who supported personally.

The Barbados Nurses Association of America, (BNAA), and Cambridge Cricket Club, Inc. have also moved ahead on their pledges.

The Adopt-A-Family programme, aims to provide 1,500 families with $600 per month for three month initially.

Speaking about the contributions, Consul General of Barbados at New York, Mackie Holder noted that once again Barbadian organisations are demonstrating their commitment to assisting their country. He said that led by Foundation, organisations were spontaneous with their pledges at a time when they have already cancelled all their fund-raising activities for the year.

Others pledging to date are the Barbados Cancer Association, USA, (BACA) Inc., Combermere Alumni Association, the Barbadian Cultural Committee of Boston (BCCB), Inc, HCQC Alumni Association USA, Friends of Barbados in Connecticut, (FOBCT), Springer Memorial Alumnae, the Caribbean Heritage Association Inc., Boston, and St George Secondary Old Scholars International, (SGSI).

It is expected that almost all existing associations will be contributing to the Adopt-A-Family charity and many will also be contributing to the Ministry of Education’s tablet drive to facilitate online learning. In fact, Holder said the Foundation School Alumni Association has also already executed their donation of ten tablets. (PR)
