The extent of their injuries and their condition was not immediately clear. The blast occurred in a munitions container on the compound shortly after 11 a.m., bringing police and fire officials to the scene as thick acrid smoke poured across the base. The Paragon base includes the coronavirus quarantine which is housing citizens who arrived this week from the US. Police spokesman Inspector Rodney Inniss sought to assure the public that while investigations are continuing there was “no need for worry at this time”. The container was storing “explosives” and “other devices”, according to Inspector Inniss. The fire was quickly brought under control within an hour after it was ignited. A blast was heard and felt more than a mile away from the scene. Barbados TODAY will have a full report in this evening’s Epaper.
