As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, putting strain on individuals and families across Barbados, many charities and community groups are on the front lines, helping to ensure vital supplies and support are given to those who are most in need.

Scotiabank has collaborated with the Rotary Club of Barbados, through its charitable fund – Rotary Trust Fund Projects Inc., to assist in the provision of food and essential supplies to families in need.

The donation of BB$20, 000 will be used towards preparing hamper boxes for distribution, by the Salvation Army, to families negatively impacted by the pandemic.

“We have long believed we are an important part of the economic and social fabric of the communities in which we operate. At times such as this, when so many individuals and families are struggling, we want to do more to support those in need in tangible ways, in particular our customers and communities,” indicated David Parks, Managing Director, Caribbean East, Scotiabank.

“Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic locally, through our Customer Assistance Programme, we have helped provide financial relief to over 17, 000 customers, including assistance with mortgages, loans, lines of credit, auto loans and credit cards.

“The Rotary Club and the COVID-19 Essentials Team are leaders in our community during this difficult time, focusing their efforts on supporting Barbadians who are experiencing difficulties. We’re very pleased to help them continue this much-needed work,” he concluded.

Monique Archer, Leader of the Barbados Covid-19 Essentials initiative, commented: “COVID-19 Essentials partnered with the Rotary Club of Barbados as we felt the sense of urgency to help those who have lost their jobs or have been laid off due to COVID-19. We hoped that by providing food weekly to families through the Salvation Army, we could assist in a small way. We are truly appreciative for the wonderful donations we have received to date, such as this extremely generous donation from Scotiabank.”
