Local NewsNews Barbados expresses concern about escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine by Barbados Today 20/05/2021 written by Barbados Today Updated by Asminnie Moonsammy 20/05/2021 1 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 296 The Government of Barbados is gravely concerned and troubled by the recent acts of violence by the Government of the State of Israel and the State of Palestine as well as the resulting injuries to civilians and loss of innocent lives.  Barbados fully supports the May 19, 2021 statement by CARICOM, which calls for an immediate ceasefire and an end to hostilities. Barbados has long supported the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination in accordance with General Assembly resolutions including Resolution 181 (II); Security Council resolutions including Resolution 242 which reaffirmed the pre-1967 borders and the right to live in peace within secure and recognised borders; as well as, in accordance with international law. In addition, Barbados has also consistently declared that the security of one state cannot be achieved at the expense of the security of the other. The Government of Barbados continues to support a peacefully-negotiated two state resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the process of cooperation and dialogue. The international community must do more to solve this intractable issue and Barbados stands ready to lend assistance in charting a way forward.
