BHP to donate 100 STEM Kits to Education Ministry

In an effort to further cultivate interest in, and develop skills relevant to the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), global resource company and offshore licensee, BHP, will donate 100 STEM kits to the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, for distribution to primary school students across the island.

And, Minister of Energy and Business Development, Kerrie Symmonds, will make the presentation on behalf of BHP, to the Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, Kay McConney, this Friday, April 8, during a handing over ceremony at the Ministry.

Those present will include officials from both ministries, as well as the Barbados National Oil Company Limited.

Government issued BHP with licences on January 27, 2020, to explore the Carlisle Bay and Bimshire offshore blocks in search of hydrocarbons. 

The issuance of the licences paved the way for the commencement of BHP’s offshore exploration work programme and triggered the payment of mandatory licence fees and financial commitments to Government. 

BHP’s licence commitments include an annual contribution of US $300,000, which will go towards training for Barbadians, and local content development. (BGIS)
