One local men’s organisation intends to do all that it can in order to help stem lawlessness amongst males on the island.
Psychologist and founder of the Centre for Solutions and Influence (CSI) for Men and Fathers Dr Anthony Cummins gave this commitment as he spoke during Saturday’s outreach initiative by his organisation to help sensitise citizens to their human rights, in recognition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Dr Cummins told Barbados TODAY that his group was well aware of the rise of crime amongst men, particularly young men, over the past several months, and they are currently doing what they can to assist in that area.
“We know that there is a major rise in lawlessness now, and that is one of the things we are focusing on. Trying to create programmes and activities for men and families, because even though we are focusing on men it must be underpinned that we are trying to reconstruct and restore the entire family.”
Monthly, CSI runs a safe space programme for men, where they can air their frustrations and seek solutions to many of the problems they face within their homes.
When asked if the COVID-19 pandemic had impacted their operations, Dr Cummins said despite the effect it had on other businesses and groups, most of their programmes actually saw a boost in attendance.
“Really and truly our organisation has not been negatively impacted, it was very positively impacted through COVID-19, because one of the things we did a lot was to use the virtual platform, and we actually had a greater attendance.
Up next for the organisation is their Father’s Day Fun Walk 2023, as well as their Men’s Extravaganza, which are expected to attract thousands of persons, with the extravaganza being held at the Wildey Gymnasium next year. (SB)
