The legal troubles of accused Jerone Omar Waterman mounted on Friday when he was hauled before the court on fraud charges.

When the 35-year-old of Combermere Street, St Michael was called in the dock, Magistrate Alison Burke heard that not only did he not appear in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court in connection with a pending case but he had also absconded from the High Court.

Waterman is facing a new charge of uttering a Republic Bank (Barbados) Limited cheque in his name for $7 080 and drawn on the account of CASHWIZ (BRB) Limited on August 21, knowing it to be forged.

He is also accused of seeking to get cash from the bank with the forged cheque. As the charges are indictable, he cannot plead at the magistrates’ court.

Prosecutor Ralph Rollock objected to bail for the accused owing to his failure to attend the lower court on “several occasions” and the fact that the High Court had issued a warrant for his arrest.

The accused claimed that he had been given time by a High Court judge to find a surety but “I never found a surety. But I found one now. I here now and I want to get myself out of this position. I have a surety now and I willing to come court anytime now and it’s up to y’all”.

The magistrate explained that if the court had given him time in good faith that had been breached.

In his application for bail, he vowed that absconding from court “will not happen again”.

But Waterman’s bail application was denied and he was remanded to reappear before Burke on September 20. On September 28, he is to appear before the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ where he had missed several court dates. He was also transported to the High Court on Friday on the arrest warrant.
