Talks about abolishing 11+ still ongoing

Government’s plan to abolish the Barbados Secondary School Examination has been cramped by the COVID-19 pandemic, Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw said today as she announced the results of this year’s examination.

At a press conference at the Elsie Payne Complex, Bradshaw did not set out any timeline for when the process would be completed.

She said, ” You would appreciate that over the course of past few months we would have had interventions because of COVID-19, we were not able to meet in the public like we would have wanted to to be able to have the full discourse of discussions on the common entrance exam.”

She however maintains consultations have been ongoing despite the pandemic and will continue in the weeks ahead.

“There have been meetings with the education reform committee and various stakeholders that have started to be able to exam the current model and syllabus but also to be able to chart the way forward for education reform not just for 11+ but for the general education system and the approach to education in Barbados generally,” Bradshaw said.
