Scholarships awarded to St Ambrose pupils for resilience, growth

Two St Ambrose Primary School students have been awarded scholarships to support their move to secondary school, in an initiative aimed at celebrating perseverance and personal development, rather than just academic achievement.

At the school’s graduation ceremony at the Island Inn Hotel, Aquatic Gap, on Tuesday, Democratic Labour Party (DLP) City candidate Dale Rowe presented special awards to the Most Improved Boy and Girl of the graduating class — Zaquille Yearwood and Keziah Lubrien-Stuart.

Rowe said the gesture aimed to recognise and encourage resilience and growth.

“This scholarship was created because I understand the importance of recognising the students who give their best every single day, even when no one is watching,” he said during his brief address. “These are the students who may not always come first, but they never give up. They show courage, discipline, and determination that deserves to be seen and celebrated.”

Rowe emphasised that improvement, not just top marks, deserves recognition, calling it “one of the most powerful forms of success.”

“It shows that you’re willing to grow, to rise above your challenges, and to believe in yourself — even when the journey is tough. That mindset is what this scholarship is about.”

The scholarships will provide financial assistance during the students’ first year of secondary school — a time Rowe acknowledged can be financially and emotionally challenging for families.

“I believe no student should be held back, when they’ve already shown the heart to move forward,” the DLP candidate said.

To the two recipients, he offered words of encouragement: “You are proof that effort matters. You are a reminder that success is not only measured by results, but by how far you’ve come. Congratulations — and continue to aim high. This is only the beginning.” (SZB)
