A contingent of 60 police officers and soldiers from within the Regional Security System (RSS) is on island to help the Barbados Police Service (TBPS) and the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) beef up security for the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Kensington Oval on Saturday.

The RSS support personnel were sworn in as Special Constables in a brief ceremony at the Police Band Headquarters, Prince Cave Hall, at the District ‘A’ Complex in Station Hill, St Michael on Wednesday.

The administration of TBPS and the BDF expressed gratitude to the RSS officers for their commitment and cooperation in this joint venture.

It is anticipated that the general public will interact with these officers in and around the environs of Kensington Oval, the police said in a statement.

In April, Parliament approved the Visiting Police Forces (ICC Cricket World Cup 2024) Act which established a structured legal framework for officers from other territories to support security efforts across the six host nations of the World Cup.

The legislation establishes the rights and obligations of visiting police forces.
