Celestial Storm has point to prove

The Roger Parravacino-trained Grade 1 winner Celestial Storm will be looking for her second grade 1 victory in the final dress rehearsal before the Sandy Lane Gold Cup, The Coolmore Home of Champions stakes on Monday, January 21.

A winner of the 2018 Sandy Lane Spa Sprint Trophy the grey five-year-old mare will be stepping up to 1800 meters a distance she is yet to win at but could spring a surprise.

Celestial Storm had run second on Boxing Day to top creole Gandalf in her most recent start in the Diamonds International \Crown of Light Stakes and Trophy going the mile trip of 1570 and is showing signs of staying on more in her races.

The fast-finishing grey has the title as the only horse in the field to defeat the top class horses in a Grade 1 race. Rasheed Hughes will ride once again and will take 123 pounds, drawn in gate 2.

The Coolmore Home of Champions race will run at 4:45 p.m. and has a field of five colts and gelding and one mare which will be a   great showdown on race right on the nine-race programme.

Horse number seven Refire had his sequence of three second-place finishes broken on Boxing Day when finishing fourth In the Diamonds international.

The dark bay gelding who is the record holder for 11 furlongs had placed second to stablemate Infrared in the Sirius Black Handicap on September 7 going 1800 meters.

Refire will take 128 pounds. Antone Whitehall has the ride.

The Irish-bred Debonaire David trained by Liz Deane had placed a head behind Refire in  5th position in the Diamonds International Stakes.

Debonaire David has set up an arch rivalry with Refire since he came to Barbados defeating him in the Alaska Pete Handicap going 1800 meters on May 26, then Again on August 11 In the BTC Board of Directors Trophy also going 1800 meters.

The Sir David Seale-owned Debonaire David had tasted defeat at his last test at the 1800 meter distance when finishing fourth behind Infrared and Refire in the Sirius Black Handicap on September 8. Anderson Trotman retains the ride once again.

Trainer Liz Deane will be going after a milestone as she has 597 career wins just needing three wins to get to 600. The late great Bill Marshall leads the way on 648.

Infrared, Voldemort and Ceroc complete the mouth-watering clash. Post time is 1 p.m.
