For the third successive year, RUBIS is supporting the important work of the Barbados Diabetes Foundation.

The energy company recently presented the cheque for BDS$6, 700 at the Maria Holder Diabetes Centre for the Caribbean, to assist with the organisation’s work to provide Barbadians with a holistic approach to the management of diabetes.

Cally Boyea, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, thanked RUBIS for their continued support.

He said: “Team RUBIS has been a very supportive and consistent partner of our work and philosophy for many years.”  He added, “We have several key projects and plans for 2020, and their assistance will go a long way to achieve them.”

Marketing Manager at RUBIS Andrea Gooding explained the energy company continues to support the important work of the Diabetes Foundation within the community.  “RUBIS is very supportive of the Foundation’s work in offering diabetes care, education and support and we are therefore pleased to be assisting them again for a third year.”

Ms Gooding added, “There is an extremely high prevalence of diabetes in the Caribbean. This non communicable disease is one that we are committed to supporting its prevention through care and education and to that extent, we have aided both the Diabetes Foundation and Diabetes Association of Barbados for several years.”

Mr Boyea explained there were several key activities undertaken by The Diabetes Centre. These include nutrition counselling to reduce the high level of obesity on island; a foot and wound care clinic to avoid ulcers and amputations; an active retinal screen program to avoid blindness; enhancing the care offered to polyclinic patients through their relationship with the Ministry of Health & Wellness; continuing medical education (CMEs) as part of their public outreach program; actively ensuring that all building space is fully utilised to enhance rental income; actively promoting The Diabetes Centre with corporate Barbados so as to extend care to private patients; and looking at converting the building to solar energy to eliminate the monthly electricity bill.
