Local News Garbage pickup hit by rains by Barbados Today 30/10/2020 written by Barbados Today 30/10/2020 1 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 136 Inclement weather over the last 48 hours has forced the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) to halt its garbage collection service. Public Relations Officer (PRO) Carl Alf Padmore indicated that the impact was particularly severe in northern sections of the country, as the government agency sought to protect its equipment and employees from the elements. “We have to secure our equipment and we have to secure our staff. That is paramount so they can be of top service to you as soon as the bad weather clears,” he said in a media release. The PRO noted that the delays will last well into the weekend as SSA crews play catch up. He also complained about garbage ending up in the road as a result of the rains, and urged residents to store their refuse properly. “We are urging residents to invest in a bin. It’s really the law that each dwelling should have a suitable bin with a cover. So we want to urge you to invest in that as well,” he advised. “We are asking the public to bear with us during this time.” (KS) You Might Be Interested In Crystal Beckles-Holder, 2nd runner up in regional competition GUYANA: Body of child found after gold mine collapses Barbadians asked to help with return tickets for Haitians Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
