Sea conditions across northern, eastern and south-eastern Barbados will deteriorate tomorrow and as a result, small craft and high surf advisories will take effect from 6 a.m. on Friday, the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has said.
According to the forecasters, a low-pressure system in the northern Atlantic coupled with strong surface winds is likely to cause moderate to rough sea swells peaking near 3.5 metres (11 feet) with wind speeds reaching a maximum of 30 knots (56km/h) throughout the weekend.
A gradual decrease in sea swells and surface winds is forecast for Monday morning.
The BMS has advised all marine craft operators and beachgoers of the possibility that large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels and the operation of smaller vessels could be difficult at times due to the imminent marine threat.
This advisory may be upgraded to a Small Craft and High Surf Warning within the next 24 to 36 hours.
