Below is the full text of the apology published on social media. To the people of Barbados, of all races and ethnicities. My name is Clifford Corbin and I am the owner of a landscaping/excavation business. Recently a video was recorded by a passenger in my truck, unbeknownst to me and without my permission and circulated on social media, which is a criminal offence, as per the Computer Misuse Act of Barbados. This was an act of malicious mischief by this individual. At that time I was upset due to having discovered that some person or persons had vandalised and criminally damaged one of my excavators which had been parked overnight at a job site in Lynches, St. Phillip. The windows were smashed and the battery and diesel fuel were stolen. In my angry state of mind, I ranted and said some things, which WERE NOT DIRECTED TO THE GENERAL POPULATION OF BARBADOS, WHO ARE OF AFRICAN DESCENT but to the vandals/criminals who damaged my equipment and stole my property and thus cost me several thousand dollars in losses. My choice of words at that time, I must confess were not the best or most appropriate but my anger took control. Hence I am man enough to admit that despite my angry state at that moment, I was wrong to utter such distasteful language and I unequivocally and without reservation apologise to the people of all races and ethnicities in Barbados and beyond who felt disrespected, insulted or uncomfortable due to the utterance of such language. I am no racist for I have some very close and treasured friends, associates and employees who are of African and East Indian descent. Yesterday I received a video and 2 still photos which depicted a Barbados Transport Authority electric bus being vandalised and damaged by two men, one wielding a wooden plank and the other a rock. My excavator was damaged in a similar fashion and the possibility exists that these men may have been the perpetrators of both criminal acts, due to the same modus operandi. These are times in Barbados where we should help one another instead of seeking to destroy others’ lives and livelihoods. Because the money I spent to fix my damaged equipment, could have been payment for one of my employees, to put food on their dinner tables…….
