Social media websites Facebook, Instagram down

Social media websites Facebook and Instagram are down.

Thousands of people from around the world are reporting issues with the websites, which are both owned by Facebook Inc.

Website DownDetector shows a spike in reports about Facebook being down at 9:20am. About 74 per cent of complaints suggest a “total blackout”, while 20 per cent of people have issues with logging in and 5 per cent say they have an issue with the application.

Among those reporting an outage are people from the United States, Denmark, Mexico, Poland, El Salvador, New Zealand and Japan.
