Local NewsNews Sir Courtney Blackman’s body returns home by Barbados Today 16/06/2021 written by Barbados Today Updated by Sandy Deane 16/06/2021 1 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 130 Barbadians can pay their final respects to Sir Courtney Blackman when his body reposes at the Courtney Blackman Grande Salle, Tom Adams Financial Centre on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The Bank encourages Sir Courtney’s contemporaries, past and present central bankers, and the many people with whom he interacted when he resided in Barbados to attend the viewing. Sir Courtney, the founding father and longest serving Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, died in the USA in March. His funeral service takes place at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels on Friday, June 18, followed later that day by his burial at the St. David’s Anglican Church. The funeral service will be by invitation only because of restrictions on numbers as a result of the pandemic. In addition to serving as Governor of the Bank, Sir Courtney was Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States, where he also served as Vice Minister of Trade at the FTAA negotiations from 1995 to 1998.
