Two men charged with burglarizing Emerald City Supermarket in St Philip last month appeared before the local magistrates’ court today where one was granted bail and the other was remanded.

The accused Dario Renaldo Jones, 33, of Lynches, St Philip was allowed $7 000 bail today following a successful bail application by his attorneys Simon Clarke and Ken Mason before Magistrate Kim Butcher.

Jones, who has one previous conviction for burglary, must now report to District ‘C’ Police Station every Wednesday before 5 p.m. with valid identification and adhere to a daily 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew.

He appeared before the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court at Horse Hill, St Joseph where Station Sergeant Glenda Carter-Nicholls, who is the prosecutor, put forward objections to bail.

The accused will reappear in the District ‘C’ Oistins Magistrates’ Court on December 13 where the matter has been transferred.

Also appearing in that court on that day is Jones’ co-accused Romell Decoursey Sobers, 40, of Eastbourne, St Philip —who was remanded at Dodds.

The objections to bail by Sergeant Carter-Nicholls were accepted by the magistrate. The accused has 11 prior convictions all under the Theft Act — nine of them involving burglaries of business places.

Sobers is represented by attorney-at-law Neville Reid.

The two men are jointly charged with entering Emerald City Supermarket as trespassers between October 19 and 20. They are alleged to have stolen a weed whacker, two cordless drills, two belt sanders; an electric drill; a jigsaw; a claw hammer; two pairs of goggles; two pairs of scissors; a ripping iron; five hams; three turkeys; two tubs of ice cream; four bottles of beer; 31 bottles of rum; two bottles of Ponche Kuba; 13 bottles of wine; 80 packs of cigarettes; nine chocolates; and ten shopping bags worth $6 537.24.

Sobers is separately charged with entering Courts as a trespasser between August 24 and 25. He is alleged to have taken a weed whacker; two cordless phones; a USB cable; eight pairs of headphones; four bluetooth speakers and a surge protector totaling $3 262.82 belonging to Unicomer Limited.

The accused were not required to plead to the charges.
