Duane Hayden Orlando Sandiford, of Groves Land, St George must pay half of the fine forthwith and the remainder in seven months or spend the alternative of two years, 332 days in prison. Sandiford had previously pleaded guilty before Madam Justice Laurie-Ann Smith Bovell, in the No. 4 Supreme Court of possession of a firearm and six rounds of ammunition. The judge said a fine would meet the justice of the case and sentenced Sandiford to pay a $25 000 fine for the illegal gun, $10 000 of which had to be paid forthwith. For the ammunition he was sentenced to pay a fine of $5 000 which also had to be paid immediately. If Sandiford fails to settle the amount with the High Court a starting sentence of eight years in prison would be imposed. From that time, he was credited with, among other things, the one third discount for his guilty plea and the 884 days he had spent on remand at Dodds leaving the convicted gunman with two years, 332 days to serve in jail.
