Over the past few years, the school has been plagued with environmental issues that caused closure, repeated protests by parents and relocations. As recent as last term, some students were shifted to a new location to accommodate classes. However, Chief Education Officer Dr. Ramona Archer on Sunday assured that the school compound at Spooner’s Hill is again fit for purpose. On a tour of the Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School, The Pine, St. Michael today, Archer revealed that further tests were carried out at Lawrence T. Gay, the latest a smoke test conducted in July. She said the findings showed that “there are no incidences of any gas emissions on the school compound”. Moreover, Archer said officials from the Ministry of Health and Wellness have been working on the matter. She revealed that the Chief Environmental Officer had deployed two officers to the school who again visited the compound just last Thursday and Friday.
