This initiative is through a Barbados Football Association (BFA) sanctioned youth tournament. The tournament has a developmental category for children in primary school, the Under-10 Grassroots Rallies. There are also two competitive categories for children in secondary school, the Under 14 & Under 16 Competitions. This youth tournament is called The Development Cup. The following football clubs participated in the various categories of the tournament: Pride of Gall Hill, Paradise F.C, Britton’s Hill F.C, Barbados Soccer Academy, Mavericks S.C, Pro Shottas F.C, United Stars Alliance F.C, Technique F. C, Youth Milan F.C, Whitehall F. A, Blaze F.C and Soccer Bim F.C. These matches have reignited the young charges’ interest in the ‘beautiful game’ once again. The social impact the tournament has created is awesome. It has acted as a catalyst to start moving some of young footballers away from the crime and violence now plaguing communities. This tournament has also proven to be a tool to help get the youngsters back out of their homes from spending numerous hours playing video games, to being back on the football field participating in sporting activity and exercise, while representing their clubs and schools now the Covid-19 pandemic is departing and the world is returning to normalcy.
