Pinelands Creative Workshop is continuing to bridge the gap in the educational and development divide with a Career and Life Management Programme set for July 3 to 7.
To gain further insight into some of the ways in which their current programme could be improved, they hosted a Stakeholder meeting with guidance counsellors from multiple secondary schools on May 10 at Courtyard by Marriott.
Chief Executive Officer of Pinelands Creative Workshop Sophia Greaves-Broome said the stakeholder meeting sought to get Guidance Counsellors at various secondary schools across Barbados to buy into the programme, as well as gain feedback on any suggestions they would have to improve the programme content and its delivery.
“To afford better participation as we have changed the target from the usual 30 students to 100 plus students. We wanted to make sure that guidance counsellors were fully aware of the programme, the benefits of the programme and get their buy in,” she said.
The event also provided the opportunity to hear from them some of the key areas that they would like to see included in the programme. One of the Guidance Counsellors raised that they would like to see the inclusion for persons with disabilities. So, we were able to capture that key information to make sure that provisions for persons with disabilities as well as capturing data that could inform the new direction for the labour market.”
Greaves added that the CALM Programme which, is under the theme Rethinking The Workplace- Defining The New World of Work shall target 4th to 6th form and tertiary students and equip them with information that would allow for improved decision making, awareness, engagement, equity, and inclusion as well as heighten their ability to identify and capitalize on available and emerging opportunities. Thus, Pinelands Creative Workshop is pleased to add some of the suggestions made by the stakeholders to the programme to reshape it so that is reflective of all contributions and relevant to today’s needs.
The Career and Life Management Programme, which is a component of the Multi-Dimensional Approach to Adaptability and Resilience (MARA) Project supported by the Maria Holder Memorial Trust, which is now in its 23rd year, is being coordinated by Programme Assistant at Pinelands Creative Workshop Kali Grant.
Grant said that this year being The Year of The Youth she is more than excited to be given the opportunity to lead this process and welcome new students to the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology on July 3 to 7. She invited interested schools and/or persons to contact her at +1246 230-1807 for further information. (Write Right PR Services)
