Founder of Caribbean Home-Help Paul Marshall said his business was now specialising in using modern technology that could prevent elderly people with dementia from going missing. He was speaking at a recent ceremony at Courtyard by Marriott, Christ Church to launch his company’s latest offering – an in-home concierge service. “Tragically, in Barbados, we have seen the elderly, especially people who have dementia, wander off and some of them have actually lost their lives. We are passionate about addressing this safety concern. To address this, we are offering an innovative monitoring service. This provides an extra layer of security and peace of mind for both the client and the family. Our geo-tracking device, worn by dementia patients, enables us to track, in real time, where the person is or where the person has wandered off, safely locate them and bring them back home,” Marshall explained. Meanwhile, he urged Barbadians to financially prepare themselves for retirement. He said this was a major concern, adding that families should establish a caregiving plan for elderly relatives before their loved ones’ conditions worsened. Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey said that in July, the National Assistance Board will be implementing measures to boost the government agency’s work.
