Ade Nathaniel Griffith was removed from the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court under heavy police guard after being remanded to Dodds Prison.

Griffith, of 7th Avenue New Orleans, St Michael had appeared in court earlier this year before Magistrate Manila Renee and pleaded guilty to criminal damage to the pitch at Kensington Oval and an oval ticket booth belonging to the Barbados Cricket Association.

He had been granted bail and later was placed on probation for one year.

But when Griffith was brought before the court on Monday after missing his last court date, the magistrate heard that he had not been attending the sessions as, according to him, there was “no purpose to probation”. She noted that the probation officer had described him as uncooperative in their report.

Throughout his time in the dock, Griffith also failed to comply with several instructions given by court prosecutor Sergeant Verdon Forde and other officers in the court.

When an officer approached with handcuffs and warned him about his behaviour, Griffith began arguing, refusing to have them put on. He then began struggling with the officers, prompting several other constables to get involved in removing him from the court after Magistrate Renee remanded him into custody.

He returns to court on Friday.
