Zion Brathwaite hit a solid half-century for the Sir Gordon Greenidge XI to end the second day and put his team in a strong position to defeat the Sir Wesley Hall XI, in the second game of the Barbados Cricket Legends Three-Day Cup.

Resuming overnight 43-3 at the Desmond Haynes Oval, the Greenidge XI were eventually bowled out for 218, a first innings lead of 54. Batting at six, Brathwaite made 68 off 132 balls with eight boundaries.

A member of the Barbados team that won the Cricket West Indies Under-19 double earlier this year, Brathwaite added 46 for the ninth wicket with captain Matthew Jones (25) and then featured in the best partnership of the innings – 60 – with Chemar Holder (28 not out).

Opener Hakeem Perryman scored 47 from an overnight 28, occupying 74 balls and hitting seven fours.

Camarie Boyce took 3-58, fellow left-arm spinner and Empire team-mate, Test player Jomel Warrican, 3-67, and pacer Stefon King did not add to his 2-10 from the opening day.

The Hall XI had lost five wickets by the time they erased the deficit, and they lost a sixth at 74, before ending the day at 99, an overall lead of 45.

The sole wicket for Akeem Jordan was Greenidge XI captain Shayne Mosely for a first-ball duck. Damel Evelyn, top scorer with 43 in the first innings, ended on 12 before bowled by pacer Jamar Ifill in the 11th over.

Sachin Clarke got Akil Greenidge for nine in the 16th over, before Ifill returned to dismiss Craig Holder for 16. And on 54, West Indies Under-19 player Joshua Dorne went for five to Gladiola all-rounder Giovonte Depeiza.

Depeiza also took Amari Goodridge for four with his left-arm spin, before Warrican and Tevyn Walcott came together to add 25 runs before the close. Walcott is not out 34 from 50 balls with four fours, whilst Warrican is on 11 with two boundaries.

Ifill has 2-18 after taking 2-16 in the first innings. Depeiza has taken 2-22, Jordan 1-2, and Clarke 1-21.

This is the second of three games in preparation for the 2025 Cricket West Indies (CWI) First Class competition. Barbados won the West Indies Four-Day Championship back-to-back in 2019-20 and 2021-22.
