In a statement, the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) said the earthquake occurred at approximately 10:50 a.m. local time. Based on available data, officials stressed that there are no tsunami watches or warnings in effect for Barbados. The agency also noted that no impacts are expected locally as a result of the seismic event. According to preliminary information from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.1. It occurred at 17.6ยฐ north and 61.0ยฐ west, at an approximate depth of 39 miles in the Leeward Islands region.
