Volunteers and local firefighters gathered in Worthing, adjacent to the post office, offering a practical service to drivers while raising much-needed funds for the organisation. The volunteers also sought new registrations for their Barbados Builder Identifier, a digital ID that helps emergency responders locate homes seeking assistance. Public relations officer and volunteer for the Bajan Firefighters Network, Krystal Penny Bowen, explained that the event was born out of a desire to reconnect with the community after a brief hiatus from fundraising. “The charity has been around for a couple of years, and we haven’t done a fundraising event in a while, so we just thought about this idea, and it’s something that is practical,” Bowen said. “Persons need to get their car washed… and we [had] some of the firefighters and some of the volunteers help assist with this activity.” While the event brought a fun, high-energy atmosphere to Worthing, the ultimate goal of the fundraiser is deeply rooted in public safety. The Bajan Firefighters Network relies heavily on donations to fund its grassroots outreach programmes, particularly its smoke alarm installation drive. According to Bowen, the proceeds from the car wash will go directly toward purchasing smoke alarms, financing community activities, and showing appreciation for the organisation’s dedicated members and volunteers.
