An “aggressive” teen who injured a minor when he threw a rock through a window will spend the next few days on remand at Dodds.
Nineteen-year-old Damario Addison Brathwaite, of Sargeant Village, Christ Church pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding the five-year-old on December 12.
According to the facts read by Sergeant Edwin Pinder, lawmen responded to a report of a dispute at the address around 10:35 a.m. While standing in the living room at the residence speaking to the parties involved Brathwaite rushed into the house and began behaving in a “boisterous” manner.
Police spoke to him and requested that he desist from his “aggressive behaviour” and to wait on the outside. He complied.
However, while they continued their investigations, they suddenly heard a crashing sound from the front bedroom. On looking outside they observed Brathwaite with a rock in his hand as if ready to throw.
It was at that time that those in the house including the minor’s mother
heard the child, who was sitting in the bedroom, crying. She was discovered with blood on her hand, neck and back. There was also broken glass on the bed and the floor.
Brathwaite was arrested and appeared before Magistrate Alison Burke today. He apologized for his actions. The child’s mother is expected to attend the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
When police tried to put the handcuffs on him in a bid to escort him out of the court the teen became unruly causing an immediate reprimand from the magistrate.
‘Mr Brathwaite conduct yourself in an orderly manner. No respect! If you think you can do it out there, let me tell you you can’t do it in here,” Magistrate Burke said.
“I am sorry ma’am,” he responded before he was escorted out of the court.
