According to Black Rock police, officers responded to a report of a shooting at about 5:10 a.m. on Belfield Road, Black Rock. They discovered the man with several gunshot wounds to his body. His mother and grandmother were at the house when the shooting occurred. โMy mom say she hear four shots; last thing she hear him holla for โGranโ.โ His family believes he was the victim of a robbery: โTwo big gold chains, his bangle and rings, they gone.โ Pilgrim said his mother became so distraught after the shooting that her blood pressure rose and she had to be taken to hospital. Describing his nephew as a peaceful, hardworking man, Pilgrim said Deon had worked for some time at a canteen where food was sold on Fridays. โDeon was a cool guy, no violence or nothing, he work for what he wantโฆ heโs a loving person.
