Winair will begin direct flights to/from Barbados from November 15, the St Maarten-based airline has announced.

It said it will operate six flights a week between St Maarten and Barbados, utilising its ATR-42 aircraft. There will also be direct flights from Barbados to Saint Lucia and Martinique twice weekly and to Dominica three times a week.

The government-owned Dutch regional airline said these new flights will allow for more possibilities to travel to and from Barbados throughout its Caribbean network, as travellers will have same day connection options to Antigua, Saba, St Eustatius, S. Barth, St Kitts and Nevis, and Tortola.

The CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI) Andrea Franklin said Winair’s new direct flights make Barbados more accessible to its Caribbean neighbours, including the French West Indies, fostering greater cultural and economic exchanges.

“These routes position Barbados as a pivotal hub for travellers and align perfectly with our goals of boosting regional tourism and strengthening ties with our Caribbean partners,” she said. “The increased connectivity will have a positive impact on both business and leisure travel, further solidifying Barbados as a premier destination in the region.”

Hans van de Velde, CEO of Winair, said the airline is growing its Caribbean network with the addition of the new routes. It now has 16 destinations and 40 routes.

“Whether you’re a local resident or an international traveller, Winair offers a seamless and convenient journey. Our partnerships with global airlines like British Airways, Air France, KLM, and JetBlue further enhance our reach to Europe and North America, making it easier than ever to explore the Caribbean’s diverse beauty,” the airline executive said.
