Copeland, of Liberta Village, St Paul’s parish, who arrived in Barbados on April 24 by sea, is accused on stealing a $500 kayak belonging to Justin Walcott between April 29 and May 1. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. With no ties to the country, the prosecution objected to bail. However, Magistrate Douglas Frederick requested that the captain of the boat on which he entered the island be summoned to court. Up to the end of the day’s sitting, the captain had not appeared and Copeland was sent to prison for another opportunity for the court to speak with his captain on Friday, May 10.
