Left-arm fast bowler Dominic Drakes grabbed a five-wicket haul while Kyle Hope and Justin Greaves struck half-centuries to lift Sir Wesley Hall XI to an emphatic 186-run victory over Sir Charles Griffith XI in the Barbados Cricket Legends 50-over Cup on Friday.
Playing in the fifth match of the tournament at Kensington Oval, Drakes rocked the early batting as Sir Charles X1, chasing 285 for victory, plunged to 35 for six by the 11th over before rallying to 98 all out in 28.3 overs.
Drakes, the son of former Barbados and West Indies all-rounder, Vasbert Drakes, finished with five for 23 from seven overs.
Deswin Currency, who top-scored with 29, featured in a ninth wicket partnership of 44 in 13 overs with wicket-keeper Tauron Gibson (12).
Out-of-favour West Indies fast bowler Miguel Cummins took two for 27 off eight overs.
After winning the toss, Sir Wesley XI scored 284 for nine off 50 overs with all-rounder Greaves hitting the top score of 86 not out off 65 balls while Hope carved out 71 off 106 deliveries.
Captain Jonathan Carter chipped in with 39 off 48 deliveries while opener Rashidi Boucher hit 26 from 23 deliveries.
Hope, who struck three fours, anchored two key half-century stands to stabilise the Sir Wesley XI. First, he put on 50 off 54 balls with Boucher and when two wickets fell in the space of nine balls with just two runs added, he combined with Carter to put on a further 69 for the third wicket.
Carter was eventually stumped off off-spinner Indal Persaud who finished with three for 40 and Shamar Springer also fell cheaply to the same bowler for eight at 137 for four in the 29th over.
But Greaves arrived at number six to prop up the innings, striking three fours and five sixes while inspiring two important partnerships.
He first posted 46 for the fifth wicket with Hope who became Persaud’s third wicket when he was stumped at 183 for five in the 37th over.
And when three wickets tumbled for 23 runs, Greaves found an ally in Joshua Drakes (16) to add a crucial 52 for the eighth wicket.
