346 new cases of COVID-19

A total of 346 persons – 169 males and 177 females – are the latest COVID-19 cases.  The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory conducted 2,231 tests on Friday, October 15.

The 346 new cases comprise 92 persons under the age of 18, and 254 who are 18 years and older.

There are currently 601 persons in isolation facilities, and 2,728 in home isolation.

Five deaths were recorded for Friday – two women, aged 50 and 87, and three men, aged 51, 59, and 93.  They were all unvaccinated.  Their deaths bring the number of persons who have died from the virus to 114, as at October 15.

Since the start of the pandemic, Barbados has recorded 12,773 confirmed cases (6,162 males and 6,611 females) of the viral illness.

The public health laboratory has carried out 355,225 tests.

To date, 144,569 people – 63.3% of the eligible population – have received first doses under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, and 116,084 persons (42.8 % of the total population or 50.8 per cent of the eligible population) have received their second dose and are fully vaccinated.  The eligible population represents those persons who are 12 years and older.
