Once again Banks Holdings Limited Group (BHL) has awarded academic scholarships each valued at BDS$1,000 to four deserving students through the company’s Academic Excellence Recognition Programme.  The 2022 awardees are:  twin Caleb and Daniel Brathwaite, first form students at Queen’s College; Shay Springer, first form student at the Christ Church Foundation School; and Sebastien Paul, sixth form student at Harrison College.

The programme is a merit-based scholarship awarded to the children of permanent staff of Banks Holdings, Banks (Barbados) Breweries Limited, and The Pine Hill Dairy under three categories: excellence in the Barbados Secondary Schools Entrance Examinations (BSSEE), excellence in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations and excellence in Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE).

BHL Country Manager, Shafia London presented the students with their certificates, cheques and a knapsack of school supplies at an on-site reception. In making the presentation London reaffirmed BHL’s commitment to the programme.

“Despite all that is going on around us, BHL’s commitment to this programme and our continued pride in the achievements of members of the BHL family is assured. We are exceptionally proud of Caleb, Daniel, Shay and Sebastien who successfully passed their national examinations and in so doing demonstrated their determination and resilience in adjusting to the new learning paradigms and remote interactions with their teachers and their peers over the pandemic years.  We are confident that their parents will keep us updated on their continued academic success in the years ahead.”

The students also expressed their pride in being awarded their BHL 2022 Academic Star status.  Shone Springer, Brewing Operator, beamed as eleven-year-old Shay confessed that he will be using his prize towards the purchase of a desk to create dedicated space to complete his homework and “get organised”.  The other three awardees had not yet decided how they would use their scholarship funds.

A maximum of fifteen scholarships can be awarded under the Academic Excellence Recognition Programme annually. Students are encouraged to use the funds to assist defray their academic expenses, including the purchase of textbooks, educational support materials and other academic
tools. (PR)
