Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 140 The Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited (BPWCCUL) has contributed $30 000 to add a culturally inspired painting to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus’ mural project. During a brief ceremony on Friday, representatives of the credit union, UWI personnel and the artists responsible for the installation gathered for the unveiling of the mural on the university’s perimeter walls. Deputy Principal Professor Winston Moore commended BPWCCUL for its contribution to the mural project which comes on the heels of the credit union’s other substantial contributions to the UWI, including scholarships ranging from $7 500 to $9 000. “The Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited is no stranger to the UWI as it has been a long-time supporter of students pursuing their degrees at the UWI…. Today, however, the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited has further strengthened their relationship with the UWI through the sponsorship of this artwork,” he said. “We sincerely look forward to future collaborations, not just through financial donations but also as it pertains to areas such as specialised training, entrepreneurial projects, and institutional development for both organisations.” BPWCCUL officials, along with UWI representatives and mural artists seen here posing by the new art installation. The mural done by local artists Rasheed Boodhoo, Don Small and Neville Legall depicts a typical Barbadian community from a bygone era. We are also reminded that Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union is more than just a financial institution; it is a place where people come together to support one another and work towards a common goal,” he said. The UWI Cave Hill Mural Project was conceptualised and launched by former Principal and Pro-Vice Chancellor Eudine Barriteau to complement the aesthetics of the campus and serve as “an artistic record of the history, culture and unique aspects of the beautiful country of Barbados while also paying homage to the UWI as an institution”, Professor Moore said.
